A dedicated marketer through and through, Lisa is the proud founder of award-winning agency Unwritten Group, host of marketing podcast GINWAG and creator of Fabric Academy. Lisa shares how her passion for creative thinking led her to create her own process for strategic marketing, and why she’s now passing on her method to marketers like you.

Growing up I was obsessed with doing things better and making a real difference in people’s lives. I wasn’t entirely sure where that would take me, but I knew it would be a wild adventure… and wow, it certainly has been!

I’ve been a marketer for as long as I can remember, working both in-house and in agency for the best part of 20 years. I’ve created and delivered marketing strategies for a huge range of clients and marketing teams over that time, which have seen incredible results for the organisations they were built for.

But the early days of my career, it was trial and error at best, figuring it out along the way and in some cases just hoping and praying for a good result.  I knew in my heart of hearts there had to be a better, more strategic, process driven way, I just hadn’t discovered it yet!

Whilst working my day job in marketing, I started teaching dance in my spare time, and fell in love with the opportunity it gave me to transform someone's life by teaching them a new skill. I applied the passion I had for teaching to my professional specialism, marketing, and Fabric was born. A bespoke teaching programme dedicated to ambitious marketers looking to do impactful work - that’s you!

But it didn’t happen overnight. I’ve been asked so many times, ‘how did you get started?’ and it’s fair to say, it was pretty accidental. In my early years I had a passion for all things creative, including art, design, dance, and writing. I also loved the process of taking an idea and building it into something truly unique. I was thrilled by seeing it come to life from nothing, so building a business was always on my radar, but in what exactly, I had no idea for a long time.

For a while, I experimented in different professions, and when I fell into marketing, I instantly knew it was for me. I also knew that my creative flair, when applied, could be a huge strength here and so after a series of marketing roles in large corporates, I searched long and hard to combine the two and eventually began my marketing career in a creative agency. I can honestly say, I’ve never looked back.

After spending 10 brilliant years in some of the most respected creative agencies, working for clients across the globe, I decided it was time to combine my third passion of building something from scratch and my own marketing agency, Unwritten Group was created.

I knew I wanted to build an agency that was unique, that had marketing strategy at its core, whist producing creative that changed people’s lives and behaviours forever. I’m so proud to say, Unwritten still does the most phenomenal work for its clients today and the team there are exceptional, all practising the very same process we teach on our programme here at Fabric.

But as with any success story, it took me 10 long years of failing, trying different techniques and learning what worked and what didn’t, to really understand what makes marketing unique and so unbelievably effective – and when you get it right – it’s magic!

For years at Unwritten I perfected the process in every way possible. I taught it to any marketers that crossed my path, but I knew I needed to share it with every marketer out there who had ambition like I did. Marketers who wanted to do exciting things with their career and change the world a little along the way.

And so, I set out to create a training academy like no other. One that would complement academic learning but would bridge the gap between theory and practical application, in order to give learners at all stages of their career, the opportunity to learn and practise at the same time. As a result, Fabric teaches the skills that would be used every single day in their day job to propel an organisation forward and help build results to demonstrate their value and accelerates their career.

So, you can see this programme has been designed with you in mind, because this is what I wish I’d had in my early career, and I’m so happy to be sharing it with you. We’ll help you avoid all the guess work and hopefully swerve the kind of mistakes I had to make along the way, enabling you to stand out in a crowded marketplace and to move forward with confidence and ambition!
